An example of MLS team’s pre-season training and games in Ventura:

In February 2012, First Wave and VC Fusion hosted a pre-season training program for Portland Timbers, one of the newer expansion franchises in MLS, in the sunshine of Ventura, CA.  John Spencer, Head Coach of Portland, was quoted as comparing the grass field facilities to those of a perfectly manicured bowling green! "Fantastic surface, wonderful weather, and superb facilities are all helping us get focused in our first year as an MLS team.”

Portland spent 9 days in Ventura, taking advantage of the facilities and support game schedule provided by First Wave, as did San Jose Earthquakes and DC United.  Vancouver Whitecaps, another expansion team, experienced the benefits of the Ventura hospitality pre-Christmas.
